About
Experience
Aerospace/Systems Engineer
After receiving a Master of Science degree in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm Sweden Andreas worked as a engine design and simulations engineer for Volvo Cars. A trainee position was offered at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands and after a year of absence from Volvo the started trainee project TeamSat required further work and so an exceptional extension was given to complete this world record fastest satellite project. TeamSat was successfully launched from French Guyana in 1997.
Project Management
Helped start the Stockholm office for Caran Engineering and worked as design and research project manager for smaller design teams. Offer from the space industry drew this to a close and a move to Germany and ESAs Operations Center in Darmstadt.
Space Systems
Worked on several missions with databases, writing operational procedures, testing and coding satellite simulators. Wrote specification and requirement documents. Concept of Operations.
Team leader Data Center
Stationed at ESTEC in the Netherlands. Responsible for the expansion/upgrade and operations of the Galileo Data Processing Center. Operations, programming, reporting, system upgrade and satellite testing.
Consultant
Started own company and took consulting contracts working as space industry specialist. Long duration contract for OHB in Bremen Germany writing and testing satellite operations and database implementation. Simulator testing support.

Work Experience
AHRTEC
2015 to present
Owner of own company Andreas Hedqvist Research Technology & Engineering Consultancy
Started company to conduct research of new energy systems focusing on wireless energy transfer. Funding of study phase received by Swedish investor groups. Consultancy work performed for OHB Bremen Germany to support the EDRS-C satellite project with procedure development. Operations preparation for procedures focused on OBDH (Onboard Data Handling), AOCS (Attitude & Orbital Control System) and Payload handling. Database, simulator and onboard software development through operations testing. Supported new template designs for procedure documentation, script designs and satellite manual volumes.
Telespazio-Vega GmbH
2006-2015
Team leader consultant at European Space Agency ESTEC Noordwijk, Netherlands
Project lead for design and operations team to initiate GALILEO Satellite Navigation System’s Data Processing Center operations. Authored system design plan, operations concept and manuals and acted as liaison with the two Giove spacecraft mission control centers. Data Center designed with 7 non-stop data processing server clusters, 16TB near real-time storage (Solaris-Oracle-MySQL), 30 satellite data terminals located worldwide accessed through secure TCP/IP links. Main responsible for anomaly/emergency operations, systems integration and acceptance (HW & SW) and data processing operations (time synchronization & orbit determination). Practical database operations, web-based procedure routine design, scripting and external code review. 24h on call responsible during spacecraft launch operations.
Vega IT GmbH
2002-2006
Principal Operations Engineer at Eumetsat Darmstadt Germany
Set up operations of US NOAA satellite instruments onboard new earth observer satellite METOP-A at Eumetsat in Darmstadt Germany. Supported new control system installation, design and testing with procedure writing, database verification and simulation campaigns. Developed version control system for METOP-A flight and ground control procedures. Supported design specifications and testing for extensive redesign of new control system for Low Earth Orbit mission operations.
VEGA PLC
1999-2002
Senior Mission Planning Engineer at ESOC Darmstadt Germany
Started with Vega as member of Envisat flight control team with main responsibility to oversee the design and verification of the MPS (mission planning system) consisting of 1M+ lines of code. Led development of flight control procedures for combined payload operations and Radar Altimeter instrument in particular. Participated in reviews, control system testing, database configuration, simulation campaigns and spacecraft commissioning and in-orbit testing. Authored mission operations concept description and wrote ground station procedures for main Ground Station in Kiruna Sweden for system operations. Performed simulator payload software and functional designs for ESA’s Rosetta and Mars Express deep space missions.
Caran Engineering AB
1997-1999
Project Manager R&D in Stockholm Sweden
Started new office in Stockholm for engineering consultancy Caran group focused on Swedish west coast vehicle industry. Responsible for entire office local IT implementation (34pers) and secure intralink with headoffice in Gothenburg. Initiated design and development projects for the pharmaceutical industry, led clinical trials with novel medical test systems designed inhouse for healthcare company Pharmacia & UpJohn. Led several design efforts for novel concept studies for St.Jude Medical’s pacemaker division. Managed design project for automated packaging robot at healthcare company Astra (later Astra-Zeneca). Held graduate course in 3d design at the University of Kristianstad Sweden for two semesters, started, taught and established computer lab for design and analysis at institution.
ESA ESTEC
1996-1997
Young Graduate Trainee at Structures Section ESTEC
Accepted as only Swedish trainee to perform verification test work with new CAE software for finite element and boundary element analyses. Started group together with 11 other trainees to learn about other space engineering domains during own time. Proposed mission to replace concrete slab to be launched with Ariane-5 vehicle following catastrophic launch failure of A501 (cluster). Following ESA funds approval, led structural design, integration and manufacturing of Teamsat satellite. Main responsibilities – structural integrity analysis and vibrational qualification (led vibration test campaign for launch authorities). Witnessed launch during stopover in Kourou later while on business trip to USA. Teamsat still holds world record in fastest satellite from conception to orbit.
Volvo Car Corporation
1995-1996
Design Engineer – Engine Cooling Systems in Göteborg Sweden
Employed during hiring stop for managing the engine cooling pumps and the Japanese supplier Aisin-Seiki. Performed redesign work together with Volvo racing team to optimize and improve cooling pump design and function. Oversaw tests of design and production line implementation with suppliers from Norway and Japan. Trained in using design and analysis software packages for 3d design, fluid dynamics and structural analysis.
